NSSA Academic Seminar 2018!

Yes, it’s that time of year: the NSSA is hosting an academic seminar! On Nov 26 (5-7 PM), we’ll be having two outstanding graduate students talk about their research as well as their educational and career paths. They’ll also be sharing what they’ve learned from these experiences, as well as tips for those planning to pursue a similar path.
**There will be a Q & A session following, so come with questions!

Shelley Vanderhout is a PhD candidate in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, and Registered Dietitian focused on pediatric nutritional epidemiology. Influencing informed health and nutrition choices at the population level is her goal, through research, communication, and policy development. Shelley’s research is a part of the TARGetKids! practice-based research network at the Hospital for Sick Children and Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the U. of Toronto. Specifically, she is focused on creating evidence-based nutrition guidelines for cow’s milk for obesity prevention in children.

Jo-Anna Baxter is a PhD Candidate at the University of Toronto in the Department of Nutritional Sciences. Her dissertation work centers on assessing the effectiveness of the provision of multiple micro-nutrient supplements to adolescent girls in rural Pakistan. Previously, she worked on several global health-related research studies, including the development and assessment of an innovative prenatal calcium supplement in Bangladesh. She is passionate about improving maternal and child nutrition through the implementation and effective scale up of evidence-based nutrition interventions from preconception through to pregnancy.
